WSRDs signed a long-term agreement with Spaceport America signifying a new phase in WSRDs' launch capabilities. WSRDs long history with the New Mexico Spaceport Authority predates the construction of the Spaceport. This agreement further enhances that relationship.

New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham announced that White Sands Research and Developers, LLC will become a Spaceport America Customer. The announcement took place in the Rotunda of the State Capitol Building, where a number of organizations and businesses from around New Mexico were gathered to celebrate "Aerospace Days." CEO Dr. Christina Lohn said of the event, "We see our company as New Mexico's 'Home Team' in the burgeoning commercial spaceflight arena and look forward to some exciting plays ahead."

Aerospace Engineering taking off at NMSU

“The impetus for the program’s initiation began three to four years before I arrived,” said [Dr. Thomas] Burton [Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Department Head]. “Paul Jaramillo and Christina Lohn in particular were instrumental in getting the program off the ground. Despite the presence of White Sands Missile Range, Los Alamos and Sandia Research Labs, there was very little aerospace presence on college campuses in New Mexico,” Burton said. “Kids wanting to pursue the field had to go out-of-state.”
